  3. Hi,

The pattern is beautiful and I was just wondering what do you mean when yo say:
    Round 2: knit around

    please clarify?

    thanks :)

  4. I just mean knit every stitch all the way around the round. The lacy pattern is only worked every other round.

  5. Hi I'm knitting this pattern right now and love it. Thank you! I'm just starting the decrease and am confused about what you mean my "8 times", then "7 times" I've done hats before and understand the premise, but am not following this. Can you kindly try and clarify? Thank you!

  6. As you decrease for the crown, you'll have fewer stitches and thus, fewer repeats of the pattern. So each time you decrease, you only have to do the bit in the brackets one fewer time than the previous odd-numbered round. For example, on round 1 of the crown shaping, you'll k2tog, then [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], then go back and do all of this over again until you get to the end of the round. Then you'll knit one round even. The next odd round will be k3tog, yo, then [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], [k2tog, yo], and repeat all of this to the end of the round. So each time you're doing doing fewer [k2tog, yo]'s between each decrease.

    Does that make sense?

  7. I am going out for yarn today. My poor mom was diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks ago, and started chemo yesterday. She will need something to keep her warm.

Thanks for posting your pattern and making it free.

  9. what cast on did you use, just curious.

  10. At the time, I believe I used the backwards loop cast on. But if I made another now, I would probably use the tubular cast on (Ysolda has a great video here) for optimal stretchiness and just because it looks so professional.

    1. Ysolda as updated her video and it isn't "here" any longer. You can find it at
      http://ysolda.com/blog/2014/2/6/technique-thursday-long-tail-tubular-cast-on
and she is great at explaining it and (best of all) no provisional cast-on needed.

  11. Hi! I love your work! I want to make the Lacy cap into a chemo cap. To do that for generic sizings for hospitals, I need to make the ribbed band between 19" and 21". Can you advise me how and where to make the decreases? Thanks!

  12. For hat sizes of 19(21)", I would do the following:

CO 84(96)sts. Work 6 rnds of k2,p2 ribbing. Switch to lace pattern and work main body of hat. The crown shaping will be the same, except that for the 19" hat, you'll skip rnds 1-7 and start with rnd 9; for the 21" hat, you'll start with rnd 5.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have further questions.

  13. Love the Lacy cap, and wondered if it could be adapted to a baby size?
Thank you for all the grat patterns. Have made the Eyelet one and it was great!

  14. Sure, it could easily be made smaller. Just cast on anywhere from 54 sts (preemie-ish) to 72 sts (infant). Then work the lace pattern for maybe 4 inches or so before working the crown shaping basically the same as for the adult version. Hope that helps!

  15. Really like this hat....can worsted weight yarn be substituted for the dk. I have a worsted that comes out at 11.5 wpi

    1. According to this chart, 11.5wpi would fall between dk and sport, making it suitable for this pattern. However, wpi and worsted/dk/sport names are only guidelines. The gauge is really what you want to pay attention to when choosing a yarn. If you can get the gauge listed in the pattern using the yarn you have, have at it!

  16. Thank you once again for your help.....I have knit 4 of these hats using worsted weight yarn and following the directions of the 19" hat and they have turned out marvelously. I am part of a group who knits hats and afghans for a local chemo center. When our group leader took the latest hats in to donate, she told me that they really liked your Lacy Cap and wanted more if we could make them.
