This started as an experiment with an oldy-but-goody stitch pattern. A feather and fan scarf? That's easy! But what about a matching hat? How would you work the crown shaping, you ask? Carefully. I went through several bouts of knitting and frogging before arriving at a solution. And it even creates a cute flower/star pattern on top.Queue this on Ravelry!

You're very welcome. Glad you like it. Let me know how yours turns out.
That is awesome.
Found your site thru... whoever posted the R2D2 pattern. :) Your patterns are really great - thanks so much for generously sharing them with us!

Are you holding the three thread together or randomly changing them out?
It's all one yarn that changes from white to light green to dark green, and I used three skeins of it. This particular yarn has been discontinued, but I'm sure a similar effect could be created with any variegated yarn.
Thank you so much! I had decided to make a feather and fan scarf, and couldn't find any pattern to use for a matching hat. I can't wait to work on it this weekend!
Thanks for the decrease ideas - I already started a hat (CO + 2 rounds) to match a different variation on feather & fan, but the symmetry of the decreases helped me visualize what mine needs.
Thank you from the ladies at Emerald library in Queensland, we have been looking for a pattern that would suit ladies who have had cancer treatment. Thanks again
